The chances of climate change causing significant disruption to saltwater fisheries are pretty high, according to a NOAA Fisheries climate vulnerability assessment that’s on its way to finalization.
All of the species examined, except for the Atlantic sturgeon, are at a very high level of exposure to elements of climate change, and many have a high sensitivity to those changes, like the gag grouper, goliath grouper, horseshoe crab, and each of the brown, pink and white shrimp species.

I’m new to fishing and like looking through product offerings. I find it really hard to determine the lineups from brands. Like which one is the most expensive and which is which. Shimano is somewhat understandable to a point. But when you say all your products are the ultimate ultimate it’s hard to differentiate. Like with cars it’s very clear which one is the base model and which one is the ultra premium version. With fishing gear they don’t make it easy. Add in all the variants of each model and it becomes more confusing.
Also it’s really hard to figure out model year changes. Shimano will say they have all new 2023 models but I can’t figure out what’s improved on them. They don’t make it clear.
Like I’d like to find out the model year improvements to the Stella SW. but it took a lot of research to sort of figure out that it was redesigned in 2019 with a refresh in 2020 with no changes since then. And it’s hard to understand what they upgraded in 19 and 20.
Shimano says they have an all new Antares and Metanium for 2023 but I can’t figure out what the changes are. And that’s just Shimano. I can’t even begin to research other brands because there’s just too much. There’s an exact reel for every imaginable situation.
Rods are just as confusing as well. It seems like these brands just aren’t as good as car brands at highlighting model year improvements and upgrades and differentiating products clearly for non enthusiasts.
I currently have a Curado DC and I know it’s considered medium tier but I wouldn’t know what the 3-4 models of higher tier would offer and how they compare.
Like how does the Antares DC MGL vs the Metanium MGL vs my Curado DC and Aldebaran MGL.
I don’t plan to buy more gear but you know how this hobby goes…
I wonder why people would want these 5000 size baitcasting reels. Aren’t those sizes for trolling deep water and where you’d want a spinning reel?
I’m considering an Antares DC MGL for tossing a Jr Frog on a heavy rod with braid to replace a Curado DC on a medium-heavy 2 piece Mojo Bass rod. I like the idea of just having a beast of an MGL reel and heavy rod to sling light frogs deep into muck and rip them out without drama and breaks.
I guess I really like new technology and upgrades. So I wanna see the new new latest greatest and how it works.

Climate change and rising sea temperatures – appears that they’re getting to the once most dependable, human food-fish staple in the north Atlantic – Cod.
Faroe Islands (together with Greenland)….where a lot of Europe’s Atlantic salmon used to go to feed then return to its rivers in amazing (though not at the time), “How do they do it…?!” (never thought or said) numbers.
