Fly fishing film festival in Missoula to highlight inclusiveness

Fly fishing doesn’t have to be a sport dominated by wealthy white men, nor do the films about the sport.

That’s why Montana Fishing Film Festival organizer Matt Devlin hopes people come out for the event’s 9th season this year, with a showing in Missoula scheduled for April 23 at the Dennison Theater on the University of Montana campus.

“We’ve become a home for inclusivity and diversity,” he said. “People from all walks of life, and particularly women, enjoy the sport of fly fishing.”

Festival planners didn’t seek out films featuring diverse filmmakers and anglers — the inclusive lineup this year happened organically.
