Will reviving B.C.’s declining salmon stocks require a rethink of hatcheries?

A “rethink” of hatcheries should not include “better hatchery solutions?” Maybe it’s time we just gave wild fish a chance to do what they do better than any fish raised in a concrete raceway or offshore net-pen? The best hatchery is a wild and healthy river.

After 150 years of experimenting, it’s becoming clear that pumping more baby fish into the ocean may actually be making the problem worse.
