  1. Nice little film. Saw me scrabbling around to plan an old Beatles song –

There are places I remember all my life
    Though some have changed
    Some forever, not for better
Some have gone and some remain

All these places have their moments
Of lovers and friends I still can recall
Some are dead and some are living
In my life I loved them all

    – and remember a San Martin de Los Andes deer stalking and occasional fishing guide, Charlie, an Englishman from the Nadder Valley in Wiltshire, who moved to Argentina as a young man to manage an estancia on the northern Pampa, then moved several hundred miles south to live and work in northern Patagonia.

A lady friend and I were travelling across the plains below the cordillera in his pick-up one afternoon. I cant’t remember where we’d been or what we’d been doing, not fishing I am pretty certain, as we knew Charlie and his very popular San Martin tea room-running partner Janet socially not “fishily”.

Then then great cone of the Lanin volcano hove into view on the horizon and Charlie turned to us and said.

“Do you know, you kids, when I see Lanin I know I’m home.”

    Lovely brown in the film.
