Sixth Grader Hooks Mammoth Koi

After three months of attempts at catching a koi from his neighborhood pond, Valentino Pickett, a sixth grade student from Polly Ryon Middle School, recently reeled in a 15-pound golden koi out of a neighborhood pond.

Fun Fact:

Texas state hatcheries raise koi as forage for captive largemouth bass brood fish. There are so many koi in Texas that they are considered “naturalized,” according to TPWD.
