Of the Sea – The First to Ever Fly Fish Banco Chinchorro

Banco Chinchorro is an atoll reef erupting out of the deep water about 25 miles east of the Caribbean coastline of Quintana Roo, Mexico. The Atoll is approximately 25 miles long from north to south and 10 miles wide. It covers about 310 square miles. The atoll also has Three islands.

Jesse Colten (owner of the Xflats and filmmaker Meris McHaney were the first in the fly fishing era to gain a temporary permit from the national park office to catch and release fly fish on Banco Chinchorro. The trial permit was only for two days. The crew fished/explored approximately 10% or less of the atoll in that time frame.
