  1. They said Polar Bears were going extinct because of climate change too. Except now the polar bear population is at all time highs. So now its a bug problem?……pretty convenient since its harder to count bugs than polar bears.

  2. As the very experienced fishers in the film said (and I will say now, having fished non-stop and very widely since the age of four and a half), the bugs have either gone or are going fast- and it certainly isn’t their fault.

As for polar bears – more of them in a very few places, but far far FAR fewer in the majority of others. In short, however we talk the facts away / down, for polar bears it’s looking good.

The opening lines of a truly great Talking Heads (we Homo ‘sapiens’ sorts are very good at talking whilst doing absolutely nothing) song spring to mind – these:

I can’t seem to face up to the facts
I’m tense and nervous and I can’t relax
I can’t sleep ’cause my bed’s on fire
Don’t touch me, I’m a real live wire
    Psycho Killer
    Qu’est-ce que c’est?
    Fa-fa-fa-fa, fa-fa-fa-fa-fa-fa, better
Run, run, run, run, run, run, run away, oh-oh-oh
    Psycho Killer
    Qu’est-ce que c’est?

    Oh, how we run.

  3. Correction to above. Should read:

“In short, however much we talk the facts away / down, for polar bears it ISN’T looking good.

  4. A lot of people are putting color low on the list, but I used to fish steelhead and color seemed to play a huge roll. Anything white red or in between seemed to do well. I don’t claim to be an expert at all, but I think it is as with all things very dependent on the situation. It completely depends on conditions, fish, flow…everything. I don’t think there is a right answer. Then again, a lot of people are pointing out things I had never heard nor thought of. I do have lots to learn.
