Federal Plan to Save Salmon by Killing Birds Backfired

The federal government killed thousands of double-crested cormorants in Oregon between 2015 and 2017, and may have caused the collapse of the birds’ largest breeding colony in a bungled effort to help young salmon make it to the ocean alive. Meanwhile, state biologists say the birds just moved upriver – where each eat three times as much salmon.

  1. Yep. You can’t shoot your way out of a mostly self-created, in reality increasingly largely environmental, crisis, fellas – as I told some of my very noisy, predator-blaming fellow Britfishers well over a decade ago to rather less than universal, “I want big uns and lots of them, NOW!”, Brave New Fishing Biz, acclaim….

“You might just be shooting your yourselves in the foot here, chaps … Cutting your nose off to spite your far from clean face….”, I had ventured, back then.

Which was real, End of the World As We Have Known It, Shoot The Messenger Stuff for some!

Oh well, I thought to myself, you can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make it drink…
