BC Steelhead Season In Jeopardy?

There’s always the Great Lakes.

There are reports coming out of steelhead paradise that the province of BC is considering shutting down the 2021 season due to low fish returns.

The impact on the tourism sector that is still reeling from the pandemic and the border closure would be dramatic, but it’s also clear we’re seeing historic steelhead runs disappear in real-time.

The Columbia, the Washington coast, the Fraser, and beyond are exhibit A for what is a crisis-level event across watersheds and borders and fisheries managers continue to just whistle past the graveyard.
