Bill to give NOAA’s endangered species power to Interior advances

By a 22-14 vote, the US House of Representatives’ Natural Resources Committee on Wednesday approved a bill that would give the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s job of protecting wild salmon, steelhead trout and other species that move between freshwater and seawater over to the Department of Interior.

The measure is opposed by a dozen environmental advocacy groups and also several US fishing groups, including the Pacific Coast Federation of Fishermen’s Associations (PCFFA).
