President Carter Honored By ‘Fly-Fishing Companion’ Justice O’Connor

Last friday night, former President Jimmy Carter received the O’Connor Justice Prize, which recognizes leadership in law initiatives and honors the legacy of Arizona native Sandra Day O’Connor, the first woman to serve on the United States Supreme Court. During his speech, President Carter described Justice O’Connor as one of his great heroes and one of his favorite fly-fishing companions.

We had no idea that President Carter and Justice O’Connor were fishing buds, but apparently that is the case. Justice O’Connor has been avidly fly-fishing for three decades and was known for taking her law clerks on annual fishing outings.
