Legislators push back on state’s limiting stream access

A controversial rule adopted in 2018 by the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish reared its head during the last portion of Friday’s meeting of the state Legislature’s Water and Natural Resources Committee, foreshadowing future conflict between private landowners and outdoor recreationists.

“The perception for resident sport fishermen of New Mexico is that resident New Mexicans are being blocked out of public waters by wealthy non-residents,” he added.
