Fishermen who missed this strike or wristed the rod upwards (the dreaded and ineffective “trout strike”) heard about it. Bill treated them like bumbling Marine recruits at Paris Island boot camp.

Fishing with Bill wasn’t for sissies or the easily ruffled. However, when you followed procedure, you regularly saw line magically melting from a spinning or fly reel during that thrilling bonefish sprint. He showed clients plenty of other gamey flats dwellers in the process.
