Five fish emerged unscathed from the jungle primary and are now the frontrunners to become America’s National Fish. In the primary, salmonids reigned supreme with Brook Trout, Steelhead, Rainbow Trout, and Cutthroat Trout finishing as the top 4 vote-getters. Largemouth Bass rounded out the top 5 with a healthy margin between it and the sixth place finisher – King Salmon.
It’s going to be an unpredictable race to the national fish finish line. Will the salmonids split the vote and pave a path to victory for largemouth as the outsider candidate or will the trout community coalesce around a consensus candidate and ensure their dominance? Will any prominent anglers step in and throw their weight behind a specific candidate? Who knows but you get to decide.
