A Roanoke doctor and guide were found murdered last Sunday in Belize. Dr. Gary Swank, a 53-year-old cardiologist was found with multiple bullet wounds near the corpse of his guide, 53-year-old Mario Graniel. Swank an avid angler was vacationing in Belize with his wife and three children and had gone out with Graniel on an excursion to the San Pedro lagoon.
Police believe the gunmen were targeting Graniel who “had a misunderstanding with one of the local notorious gang” figures, according to the Belize police commissioner.
