Some anglers suggest walleye should be recognized as Montana natives

Walleye are one of the most popular game fish in Montana and should be managed as a native species.

That’s the contention of Dale Gilbert, an Ulm angler and fishing guide, who has asked Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks to revise its classification of the fish. Right now the state recognizes the species as an introduced non-native.
