got a Scott A3 11' 8 weight switch rod for Xmas. What line is best for fishing steelhead in Salmon River NY? Looking at Rio Skagit Flight Head 500 grain with an additional cheater, but not sure. Want ability to nymph and swing flies. Any recommendations?

I like the Rio AFS 7/8 on that rod or for getting down and turning over big weighted flys the Airflo Skagit compact 510 grains and a cheater if you need it.

Steve, I like the floating AFS line - if you want to swing flies what tip(s) do you recommend? Poly leaders? Also, the line comes in a visual orange or a subtle green. I was thinking the orange just to see the cast, but perhaps the green is better as not to spook wary fish in skinny water. Any opinion? thanks for the feedback ... see ya on the river
