Episode 38 - Pete Maina is North America’s number one authority in Muskie and Pike fishing. Pete is one of the hosts of The Next Bite TV on Versus, and has had a guest appearance on a bunch of other shows. He has authored two books and countless articles and videos. He is also a professional photographer, guided for many years, and has spoken all across North America.
Episode 37 - Bruce Condello is from Lincoln, Nebraska where his time is split between his dental practice, his thriving aquaculture business, raising a handsome family, and chasing the biggest bluegills that North America has to offer. He’s also an avid angler of all things that swim, so we’ll pluck some stories out of him, but he’s known among fishing circles for the Condello Strain Bluegill, his website, BigBluegill.com, and he’s on the cover of this month’s In-Fisherman magazine holding a fish the size of a dinner plate.
Episode 36 - Brian O’Keefe has fly fished all over the world for 30 years, for 20 of those as a professional photographer as well. He’s had a career as a fly fishing rep, he’s won a bunch of fly casting competitions, created and been featured in a ton of cool fly fishing videos and films. He’s had a cover shot on every magazine you like to read and he’s caught legendary fish everywhere you’ve dreamt of fishing.
Episode 35 - Anders Halverson joins us on today’s Fish Schtick. He’s the author of “An Entirely Synthetic Fish: How Rainbow Trout Beguiled America and Overran the World.” Anders is an award-winning journalist with a Ph.D. in ecology from Yale University. With support from the National Science Foundation, he wrote this book as a research associate at the University of Colorado’s Center of the American West. Episode 34 - Andrew Bennett runs Deneki Outdoors, which operates fly fishing lodges in Alaska, British Columbia, the Bahamas and Chile. They also have one of the freshest, richest blogs on the internet, and you get their daily dose right in your e-mail inbox. We’re going to get Andrew to unload some fish stories from some of the greatest destinations on the planet today, and we know he’s got them because we read ‘em every day.
Episode 33 - Bryan Huskey of Fishbite media is a photographer and filmmaker inspired by the open spaces of the Rocky Mountains and the Northwest United States. He is establishing his own niche in the fly fishing media community, Bryan’s photos have been featured in the last two Scott Rods catalogs, CATCH Magazine, and he just won the gold medal at the Oregon Fly Fishing Film Festival for his “Oregon Water” short. He also produced the “Casting 4 A Cure” video we talked about with guest Bill Farnum a couple of weeks ago.
Episode 32 - Shaw Grigsby is a bass fishing icon. He’s been a professional angler for over 25 years, and wherever he shows up, so does a crowd of fans. He’s won over $1.5 Million fishing bass tournaments. His show, “One More Cast,” can be seen every week on Versus. Episode 31 - You saw him in one of our Fish Schtick Video Shorts last year at the FFR Show. Dr. Aaron Adams is the Director of Operations and Research for the Bonefish & Tarpon Trust. He works to preserve inshore game fish like Bonefish, Tarpon, Snook and Permit from the mangroves to the marl flats. Aaron is a scientist, author, and avid fly angler who is helping recreational anglers make the connection between scientific research and what’s happening on the water. Working out of the Mote Marine Laboratory in Sarasota, Florida, Dr. Adams is publicizing issues – and the solutions – through projects like Pirates of the Flats airing now on ESPN 2.
Episode 30 - Bill Farnum has been an avid fly fisherman as long as he can remember. He picked up his first fly rod on a trip to the Upper Sacramento River while attending college at UC Davis. Today he lives in Sherwood, Oregon with his wife Beth and their two kids, Ella and Alex.
Episode 29 - Thad Robison with Mayfly Media is responsible for putting on the Fly Fishing Film Tour – a national tour of amazing cinematography centered around the sport of fly fishing. He’s been a Fish Schtick guest before, but with the Fly Fishing Film tour about to re-launch, we had to have him back for a rundown on the tour, and what life is like out on the road.

Episode 26 - Zeno Hromin is an author and a guide specializing on catching stripers in the surf. Putting on countless hours fishing the South Shore and Montauk, he’s become an expert in the art of surf casting.

Episode 24 - Today’s guest is Fran Mariani, host of Fly Cast America – the only fly fishing offering on ESPN Latin America. He and his partner travel across South America fishing waters familiar to a North American audience like those in Patagonia for giant trout, and some less familiar waters for species exotic and less familiar to us. They also introduce North American destinations to their audience – last season they fished U.S. waters like Miami’s Biscayne Bay for bonefish, and Utah’s Green River.
Episode 23 - John Crews joins us on today’s Fish Schtick. One of the younger generation of stars in the world of professional bass fishing, John is more than a BASS Elite Angler. He is also currently the president of the PAA - the Professional Angler’s Association. To be elected president means that you have gained a position of respect among your peers, and you’ll have no question as to why after meeting him on today’s show.
Episode 22 - Conventional wisdom says the last thing you would want to do is launch a new print fly fishing publication in this new world of on-line media. Well our guest on this week's episode of The Schtick does not subscribe to conventional wisdom. Jeff Galbraith and his team have recently launched The Flyfish Journal, fly fishing's coffee-table bible that covers fly fishing's icons, environment, and global culture.
Episode 21 - Mike Savlen joins us from New Hampshire today. Mike is an artist whose past professions have run from ditch digger to art director, victorian restoration painter to nightclub owner, sign carver to commercial fisherman and many more in between. Today he splits time between Costa Rica and Cape Cod. We’ll talk about Mike’s gamefish illustrations, marine paintings, his new bragging rights portraits, and lots of other stuff on today’s Fish Schtick.
Episode 20 - Shane Davies has been guiding on the Brazos River in Texas since 1994. Today, he guides exclusively from kayaks, with a strong emphasis on catch and release fishing for trophy fish. He’s an innovative angler, and he is exactly the kind of personality we seek out for The Fish Schtick
Episode 19 - Carrol Henderson joins us on today’s Fish Schtick. He’s an Iowa Boy like me – he grew up on a farm in central Iowa where his dad took him fishing at farm ponds for sunfish and bullheads. Today he lives in St. Paul, Minnesota where he works for the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.
Episode 18: Our guest today is Heather Sieber, Communication & Education Director at the RBFF – the Recreational Boating and Fishing Foundation. These are the “Angler’s Legacy people,” the “Take Me Fishing” people.
Episode 17: Danny Blandford from the PAA – the Professional Angler’s Association – joins us today on the Fish Schtick. Danny went to Indiana University and majored in public affairs with an emphasis in environmental management.
