“Just call them a San Juan Stretched Caddis Larva, and everything will be just fine.”

Paul Bruun on the San Juan Worm.

The first day I fished the San Juan, which must have been something like 1981, I remember watching this guy catching fish like crazy, while I never touched a trout. He waded over to me and said, “I see you aren’t catching anything, so try one of these.”

That San Juan Worm was wrapped with bright orange yarn on a 7X long Mustad streamer hook.

“The trick to the fly was that this yarn could only be found at Kmart,” Knopic said. “The rest is history, as they say.”
