Fishing on the Lower Deschutes is Hot

Now being called the Lower Deschutes Fire Complex, a set of fires near Maupin has shut down recreation on the river from Maupin City Park to Sandy Beach. Multiple campgrounds and the Oaks Springs fish hatchery have been evacuated and the city of Maupin itself is on pre-evacuation notice, residents told to have a bag packed ready to go.  LINK  (Via: KOHD)

Do as we say, not as we do

The White was puking and vis blew. It was too sunny, too hot and 5 days too late.

Fully understanding the cardinal steelheading rule of "fish the fly long and fish it with confidence", I decided to change my fly.  For the fifth time.  In an hour.   Needless to say, I was not in the game and my unexecuted barb pinch illustrates how un-smart things got.
