Colorado Parks and Wildlife is planning to stock several thousand large, whirling disease resistant Hofer rainbow trout into a section of the Colorado River where a large, natural fish kill occurred earlier this year, the agency reported in a news release.
Wildlife managers will begin stocking operations on Tuesday between Dotsero and the Cottonwood boat ramp.

Monday, June 18, 2012 at 12:01AM Average Colorado River flows through Glenwood Canyon this time of year are about 6,000 cfs, but this year, the river has been flowing at less than 20 percent of that, at about 1,100 cfs.
Colorado water managers are wrangling every last drop and trying to make them all count.

Scientists say that to live sustainably, we should use no more than 40 percent of the water from the Colorado River Basin. As it is now, we use 76 percent, nearly double the sustainable benchmark.

The largest employer in the American Southwest isn’t a company, a military base, a government. When anyone talks about job creators in this part of the country, they should include the Colorado River.
