Trout Unlimited Applauds Gas Company Disclosure

Responding to an announcement by Range Resources Corp. that it will disclose the list of chemicals it is using in hydraulic fracturing of gas wells in the Marcellus Shale region in Pa., Trout Unlimited (TU) applauds the energy company for its plan.
"If Range Resources is planning to disclose the chemicals it uses in its drilling operations, there is no reason other companies can't do the same," said Elizabeth Maclin, TU's Vice President for Eastern Conservation. "With thousands of wells being drilled throughout Pennsylvania, knowing what is in fracking fluids is an important step toward protecting the state's natural resources."

So when we find out these fluids are toxic then what? We already know they're toxic. Doesn't state they'll stop using them.
This is not a victory of any sort from my perspective.
I see it as a victory - with full disclosure of the chemicals that they are using in the process, it will be easier to determine if there are links between the process and what is being found in water supplies, etc.
It is already known that the process contaminates the water. Over 40% of the chemicals that are used in fracturing are never recovered. The rest sit in evaporation pools and put into the atmosphere, which is also dangerous.
In the end nothing will change. Fire will continue to come out of taps in people's homes.
Some of the companies have already. The shit in the hydraulic fracs is mostly dihydrogen oxide and silicon dioxide. Both of these chemicals are know to cause deaths in the quanities that are used in hydraulic fracturing. These chemicals then get mixed with methane. Nasty shit, it catches on fire.
What's next, Wells spewing natty gas into Lake Erie? I know the reliance on foriegn fossil fuels has to be supplemented but do we really need to kill the ecosystem in the process?
