Any details on how long it took them to land this beast?

    February 26, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterAC

Took me an hour. And to Jonathan Hill we did put it back...that fish was out of the water 10 seconds tops and was released in fine condition.

Why do people use fly rods for those things? trolling with a fly rod is pointless. stick to spider wire and a fighting chair with a beer holder

    February 26, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterHerb

Well did you use spinning rod teasers to raise it?

hey Herb...quit smoking your namesake...and before you chime in here is how it went down......this fish was caught according to IGFA rules during the GIFT tourney out of Quepos, Costa Rica...teased into casting range, boat OUT of gear, casted to and hooked up...fought for about and hour and released. I appreciate the other comments....catching a blue on a fly according to IGFA tourney rules is a true angling challenge and one I will cherish until the next time if I am ever so fortunate.

Beautiful fish John. How come the only time you want to fish with me is in the freezing cold?Props to you! And for you nay sayers, Mr. Kelly is the real deal. hard fn core!

Good stuff - nothing like bait and switch - such an adrenaline rush when you get hooked up, and a great fun method for teamwork among the crew. I've done some bait and switch for Blue Marlin and it usually consists of me getting a sunburn and falling asleep while paying hundreds of dollars to motor in circles all day. The fishing gods have smiled on you. Keep truckin. You'll have my vote.
