The Columbia

A historic look at the harnessing of the Columbia River and its tributaries. Woody Guthrie was hired by Bonneville Power Association in 1941 to write the songs for this movie but production was delayed by World War II. Finished in 1949, this film contains rare footage of Grand Coulee Dam construction, Indian fishing at Celilo Falls and the 1948 Vanport flood.

This is astounding... tons to consider here. Not the least of which is the rhetoric: The "unharnessed" river (like it is just sitting there being wasted) and the Indians fishing for salmon "since the time of Meriwether Lewis" (and not the 10,000 years of that practice.)

That dust bowl guy's wife was pretty hot I hope I didn't just whack it to an image of great grandma. All boner jokes aside Woodie Guthrie is pretty cool I wish modern music was as real as his. Oh yeah, most dams suck.
