To give their music an added dimension, The Band recruited Allen Toussaint and a five-man horn section to spice up their sound for the Cahoots album. When they rehearsed for a four-night stand at the Academy of Music in New York City back in the winter of ‘71, Toussaint and the horns were invited.

The Rolling Stones' Acetates, released from Midnight Beat in 1995, is a collection of unmixed versions of tracks from Goats Head Soup (1973) and It's Only Rock'n'Roll (1974) plus Save Me and Drift Away. They are reputed to be taken from acetates but without any crackles.

Mmmmm...Stones in the mornin!
But I gotta side with Rick, Robbie, Levon and the boys. Been gettin into Helms music more of late, but these two tracks brought me right back to the first time I drove down Stoll Rd.
