Australia’s plan to tackle its carp problem with herpes is moving forward. The government’s federal budget was announced on Tuesday, and it includes funding for an initiative to release herpes into the Murray-Darling Basin to eradicate carp. Australia will spend $15 million on the program, a small expense compared to the $500 million the government says it now spends yearly dealing with the problem.
