Gentleman- My most appreciated wife just asked me to take her to key west this November for her 30th birthday. I immediately responded by saying that I would need a new 8WT tropical intermediate line, she said I would need a good lawyer. She reluctantly agreed to give me a few early morning hours and possibly a few evening hours but no half or full day guided trips. Great. I need some advice. The wonderful world wide web is letting me down. I am trying to find local fly shops to solicit information from and to have a gear resource lined up. Cant find any. No matter how I search, I am not having any luck. There has to be fly shops right? Can someone please help. Any local knowledge you could share is greatly appreciated. Where, what, how, when, etc. I am from the Chesapeake Bay and will be way out of my league. Gracious!

I know of two fly shops in KeyWest. One is the Saltwater Angler. The other is the Angling Company. Saltwater Angler is an Orvis shop for what it is worth.
Chesapeake Bay?? How was the striper fishing this winter?

Saltwater angler is a great shop Tony Murphy owns it and is a wonderful fly guide. Jeff Searcy is one of his guides that I fish with on a regular basis. I own a condo on Key West. It is a great trip. depending on the wind and season they really affect your gear. I wouldn't go nuts on gear. Just be able to cast. Jeff fishes from and old dolphin but don't let it fool you. I have pulled many a fish onto it. We have been fishing the keys a long time. Go with a open mind and let those guys put you on the bite. Don't get to hung up on one species. The tuna behind the shrimp boats are amazing. tarpon on the ledge are fun as are the back country jacks, bones, and sharks. Have fun and have a beer at green parrot for me.
