Alberta group tries to force federal justice minister to protect cutthroat trout

The Canadian government is facing more legal problems over an alleged and ongoing failure to enforce its own environmental laws — challenged this time by a group trying to protect the habitat of native cutthroat trout in Alberta.

Cutthroat trout have been considered threatened under the Species At Risk Act since 2013. The Fisheries minister was supposed to have filed a strategy to protect it by March 2015 but has yet to do so.
